Love...

1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

4: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast, it is not proud. 5: It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs. 6: Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7: It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Our Pastor recently did a series on this scripture. Although I was present during this whole series there is only one thing that really sticks out at me. It is that Love is a choice.

Anyone who is married for any length of time can probably tell you that the love has changed from the first time they felt it. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. When you get into the swing of things and life starts happening with careers, children, and extra activies you don't spend every waking moment concentrating on the one person.

Shawn and I will be married 9 years next month and I don't know about you but that is a record in today's times. It hasn't been easy all the time and we have had out rough patches, but we still chose to love. That is what this sermon meant to me. This series meant to me that God calls us to love the one we are with and to never give up. He never says it is going to be easy, but he also never says we are to give up.

In this series the pastor breaks each verse down. He explains how we are to do these things to make sure that we are honoring God in our marriage. We are to make sure that the love we have is always patient and kind. The direct meaning of that verse is that we are to have love that is long and mellowing. We aren't to covet what the other has and to make sure that we are respectful. We are to never try and be self-seeking by making sure that our marriage is for the other and not for ourselves. We shouldn't what to hurst the other or remind them of the short commings we think they are guilty of. We shouldn't be happy when they hurt. We should always remember to love them, trust them, respect them and to make sure that we are to choose to love instead of fall away from them.

These things are hard, but I will never forget that love is a choice. I promise to always choose to love instead of running away.

Love is hard. Love can be easy. Love is what God does everyday. He chose me. He chose to say that I am worth His Son's life. If you really think about the ways that God loves us, the way that Jesus loved then you have to look at these scriptures as the example.

In 1 Corinthians 13:2 it says If I have the faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. That is so true. You can have all the possesions in the world, but to not have love is to gain nothing.

In Christ,

Rachael
